Drawing inspiration from classical draftsmanship, symbolic and historical motifs, and a profoundly layered understanding of form and gesture, Sebastião Castelo Lopes’ distinctive style is evident in this original contemporary art drawing, a dynamic interplay of marks, lines, and subtle traces.

Castelo Lopes has continually explored the space between presence and absence throughout his practice. Characteristically, his works evoke tension and rhythm, an archive of the palimpsest, as though each line carries the memory of its own creation and erasure. Symbols and fragments of literature emerge, disappear, and reappear across the work, tracing the passage of time and inviting the viewer into a contemplative dialogue with both the artist and themselves.

This piece, like much of his oeuvre, oscillates between the intimate and the expansive, the seen and the suggested, creating a space where perception, memory, and imagination intersect.
