Francisca Gigante is an Art Historian and Curator.

PhD Candidate in Art History at Universidade Nova de Lisboa with national funds from the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP (2022-2026).

She is a Member of the Institute of Art History Research Group in Contemporary Art (CASt) at IHA NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST.

Francisca Gigante was Visiting Researcher at Università Ca' Foscari, Venice (2023-2024) and Universität Kassel (2024-2025).

She holds a Master of Arts in Art Business from Sotheby's Institute of Art in New York (2015-2017), after completing a semester of studies abroad in Contemporary Art Histories in London (2016) and the Art History: Renaissance Art to Present course ( 2015). Prior to that, Francisca earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the Catholic University of Portugal (2012-2015).

During the past years, Francisca has been working between Venice and Lisbon for non-profit art organizations, such as the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia (2017-2019) as Education Specialist, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation (2017- 2019) as Coordinator of the Interns at the Museum and Coordinator of the Interns at the United States Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, EDP Foundation (2018) as Education Specialist, coordinating more than 250 international interns, writing book chapters and catalogues, and completing hundreds of interviews to contemporary artists and curators.

Francisca was Gallery Assistant of Jaqueline Martins Gallery, São Paulo at ARCOLisboa, IFEMA Madrid Portugal (2016) and Social Media Manager in Expresso, Impresa Media Group (2015).

She was a Cultural Consultant for multiple institutions and projects, including UrbsTravel (2021) and PARTE Portugal Art Encounters (2022), supported by Turismo de Portugal.

She is the Director of FITA – Friends In The Arts and Editor of FITA Magazine (2020-), honored with the High Patronage of the President of Portugal (2022).

She was the Coordinator of the International FITA Awards of Literature (2022) and Editor of the book Portrait of the Artist as a Writer (2022).

She coordinated and managed the FITA and Book Cover Pavilion at the Lisbon Book Fair (2022). She was awarded the Seal of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives (2019) by Nancy Pelosi for her outstanding services at the Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia and received The Merit Scholarship by the Catholic University of Portugal (2012).

Francisca Gigante works as a Curator in the art world (Lega delle Signore, TARIMBA Collective, FITA, 2017-) and her artwork The Banquet of Eternity has been exhibited in the Croatian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2024).
