Poetry & Music
Zé Bernardo da Fonseca was born in 1994 in Lisbon. He grew up in Covilhã and later returned to his hometown to pursue his education. He holds a Bachelor's degree in General Studies from the University of Lisbon, a Master's degree in Communication Sciences, Marketing and Advertising from the Catholic University of Portugal, and is currently completing his PhD in Communication Sciences at the same institution.
Throughout his academic journey, he has remained deeply connected to the arts and literature, publishing a variety of texts across different media. His international publications include contributions to FITA Magazine Volume I / Invisible Atlas (2021), III / Star Portraits (2022), IV / Time Travel (2023), and V / Floating Waters (2025) by FITA – Friends In The Arts. He is also the author of the poetry book Se Ícaro Voasse de Noite (If Icarus Flew at Night), published by Oro Caleidoscópio in 2018.
In 2020, he created the podcast Memórias do Cárcere (Prison Memories), which featured more than 70 episodes. In 2025, he launched a new project, Um Café e Um Poema (A Coffee and a Poem), both dedicated to the recitation and promotion of Portuguese-language poetry.
He has been involved in several artistic groups, including Os Epígrafes and Atelier 24, the latter awarded the Beyond Creative Prize in 2016, as well as various poetry performance collectives. To this day, he continues to promote the written word through public readings, festivals, international book fairs, and cultural venues such as FÓLIO – Óbidos International Literature Festival, the Lisbon Book Fair, FNAC Colombo, the Monastery of Batalha, the Palace of Independence, Casa Ásia – Coleção Francisco Capelo, Jardim da Estrela, among others.
His most recent performances took place at the Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, on June 10, 2025, celebrating Portugal Day, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities and Coruchéus Alvalade, Lisbon City Hall on October 18, 2025 in honor of Madalena Pequito’s exhibition Só Entro Com Chave (I Only Enter With a Key) created by FITA Collection.
