Rodrigo Veloso é um artista multidisciplinar e designer, sediado em Nova Iorque desde 2021. Com mestrado em Arquitetura pelo Instituto Superior Técnico da Universidade de Lisboa, iniciou o seu percurso profissional como arquiteto no atelier ARX Portugal, antes de transitar de forma definitiva para as artes visuais. Atualmente, a sua prática move-se com fluidez entre a pintura, a ilustração e o design gráfico, sendo também partner do Studio Ayer, uma consultoria de design independente fundada em 2019.

A sua prática artística explora as interseções entre a figura humana, o mundo natural e os ambientes que habitamos. Embora a sua formação em arquitetura fundamente a sua compreensão do espaço e da composição matemática, é na imediação tátil do pastel de óleo que Rodrigo encontra a sua expressão mais autêntica. O artista procura a intimidade deste meio: a fusão física entre o pigmento, a ponta dos dedos e a superfície permite-lhe uma tradução visceral e orgânica da memória e da textura.

O seu trabalho é movido por uma curiosidade contínua e por uma história de movimento. Experiências imersivas em diversas geografias, desde as paisagens da América do Sul e de África até à energia inesgotável da sua atual vida em Nova Iorque, acrescentam camadas complexas ao seu vocabulário visual. Em vez de se limitar a documentar estes lugares, a sua arte procura capturar os seus ritmos crus. Através deste processo físico de sobreposição de cor e matéria, Veloso celebra as diversas formas de vivência e os laços táteis universais que nos ligam ao mundo.

Mantendo uma perspetiva global assente na sua herança portuguesa, Rodrigo Veloso é uma presença ativa e profundamente envolvida nas comunidades de artistas de Nova Iorque, tendo sido membro fundador da comunidade global de artistas Tableau by Visionary Projects NYC e colaborador ativo do coletivo Eyes on Art.

Esta forte ligação tem resultado numa presença contínua em diversas exposições coletivas em pólos culturais da cidade. Em Manhattan, integrou mostras em espaços de relevo como The High Line Nine Galleries e Triangle Loft (ambos em Chelsea), a Gallery MC, a Galeria Azur e a Galeria mexicana MOONI. Em Brooklyn, o seu trabalho já foi apresentado na The Other Art Fair by Saatchi, na 17 Frost Gallery, na Seven House Gallery e no The Yard Gowanus.

Rodrigo Veloso is a multidisciplinary artist and designer who has been based in New York since 2021. With a Master’s degree in Architecture from the Instituto Superior Técnico at the University of Lisbon, he began his professional career as an architect at the ARX Portugal studio, before making a definitive transition to the visual arts. His practice currently moves fluidly between painting, illustration and graphic design, and he is also a partner at Studio Ayer, an independent design consultancy founded in 2019.

His artistic practice explores the intersections between the human figure, the natural world and the environments we inhabit. Whilst his training in architecture underpins his understanding of space and mathematical composition, it is in the tactile immediacy of oil pastels that Rodrigo finds his most authentic form of expression. The artist seeks the intimacy of this medium: the physical fusion between the pigment, his fingertips and the surface allows him to translate memory and texture in a visceral and organic way.

His work is driven by a constant curiosity and a history of movement. Immersive experiences across diverse landscapes, from the scenery of South America and Africa to the inexhaustible energy of his current life in New York, add complex layers to his visual vocabulary. Rather than merely documenting these places, his art seeks to capture their raw rhythms. Through this physical process of layering color and material, Veloso celebrates the diverse ways of living and the universal tactile bonds that connect us to the world.

Whilst maintaining a global perspective rooted in his Portuguese heritage, Rodrigo Veloso is an active and deeply involved figure within New York’s artistic communities; he was a founding member of the global artists’ community Tableau by Visionary Projects NYC and an active contributor to the Eyes on Art collective.

This strong connection has resulted in his regular participation in various group exhibitions at cultural venues across the city. In Manhattan, he has taken part in exhibitions at prominent venues such as The High Line Nine Galleries and Triangle Loft (both in Chelsea), Gallery MC, Galeria Azur and MOONI Mexican gallery.
